Active Release Technique at Whitehead Chiropractic in Austin
Here at Whitehead Chiropractic, we view (and treat) you as a whole person, administering a combination of natural healing modalities to address, not just your joints, but every aspect of your health and wellness. This includes soft tissues such as muscles, tendons, ligaments, and fascia. These tissues can experience serious internal scarring and other painful, limiting complications that affect your current quality of life.
That's why our Austin chiropractors are proud to offer Active Release Technique (ART), a sophisticated method of mobilizing those tissues and relieving your symptoms.
What Is Active Release Technique?
To understand what Active Release Technique is and how it can enhance your well-being, it's first important to understand the tissue ailments that this technique is designed to treat. The muscles and connective tissues in your body are capable of remarkable feats, but they're also all too prone to overuse. Repetitive strain at work, repeated overuse of key muscles in your chosen sport, or accumulated stress from a musculoskeletal imbalance can cause tiny injuries collectively known as microtrauma, as well as more significant strains and sprains.
The repeated stress on the tissues gives them insufficient time to heal; instead, the body lays down more and more scar tissue in an attempt to minimize further damage. Unfortunately, the scar tissue itself can become a problem. Collections of scar tissue called adhesions can trap muscles, tendons and even nerves, causing pain and reducing your range of motion in the affected area.
Active Release Technique is a form of manual therapy that identifies and releases these areas of entrapment. This patented technique, which includes over 500 individual hand motions, allows our chiropractor to feel for the origins of your soft tissue symptoms as you move the affected muscles. By pinpointing exactly where the tissues feel abnormal or fail to interact with each other correctly, we can then use additional manipulations to break up scar tissue, freeing muscles, connective tissues, and nerves so they can operate as they should once again.
A Natural Solution for a Variety of Painful Problems
ART can be administered alongside chiropractic adjustments and other natural techniques to treat a great many soft tissue complaints. (For instance, chronic strain related to a musculoskeletal misalignment may benefit from a combination of chiropractic adjustments, corrective exercises, and ART.) You may find ART extremely helpful for:
• Achilles tendonitis and other types of tendonitis
• Tennis or golfer's elbow
• Shin splints
• Rotator cuff injuries
• Back pain
• Carpal tunnel syndrome
• Plantar fasciitis
• Knee pain
These and other painful conditions can often be relieved quickly -- and for good -- after just a few applications of the right manual protocols.
